| Scottish days celebrates the town's Scottish tradition with its fellow sister city in Scotland. The history of the town and other demonstrations from history are featured at the Kilmarnock Museum on Main Street North. The museum is a fascinating place to visit for both young and old. Events include authentic sword demonstrations, the town's Scottish bagpipe band, and the presentation of Scotish and Irish folklore, including folks wearing their family coat of arms, breast plate - and the men wearing kilts, which looks like a type of short skirt. Scottish festival days in the past have featured the talented, beautiful, and sexy Miss Virginia, who signs autographs at merchant shops and serves as a role model for young teen girls. RivahFest is celebrated around Memorial day and is oriented towards children, with a judged bike, stroller, and skateboard parade for children under 12. The annual Christmas parade is one of the biggest in the state with hundreds of entries. The parade is a partnership between the Kilmarnock Chamber of Commerce and the Kiwanis Club of the Northern Neck. The parade features guest celebrities such as Cooter from the Dukes of Hazard and his country band complete with banjos, guitars, string bass, and of course Cooter singing. The parade features teenage beauty contestant winners, princesses, high school bands, high school cheerleaders, fire and rescue units, commercial floats, civic club floats, and a Santa Claus tent for kids after the parade. All of the Kilmarnock Chamber events support shopping Red Hat Society items. The Red Hat Society consists of middle-age women who enjoy shopping together in towns, and they operate in chapters. The chapters closest to Kilmarnock are in Richmond, Dumfries, Norge, and the Fredericksburg area. Women interested in joining should visit www.redhatsociety.com. All local events are covered by the Rappahannock Record, a local paper with an internet presence at www.rrecord.com. The Kilmarnock Chamber of Commerce serves the Northern Neck of Virginia which is located where the Rappahannock River meets the Chesapeake Bay in the Town of Kilmarnock located in Lancaster County, Virginia. Although the Kilmarnock Chamber of Commerce is primarily a merchant's association, as a member in partnership with the Lancaster County Chamber of Commerce (www.lancasterva.com), the Kilmarnock Chamber of Commerce is very much interested in business and enterprise development. James M. Alga (known as Jamie) who operates his CPA firm behind Tri-Star Supermarket in downtown Kilmarnock is the Webmaster for the chamber's site and can be reached at www.AlgaCPA.com. The chamber partners with the LHS Key Club which furnished teen girls as parade float guides. The Key club leadership is open to both teen girls and teen boys. These active teen girls and boys excel academically and are active in many school functions. These teen girls and boys serve as positive role models. |
